All these sketches were done with conté sticks, on location, live drawings of people while I hung out in assorted pubs for a year. Some people knew I was sketching them, some didn’t. Some people sat still for me, others were more dynamic so it was more about capturing the impression of a person than rendering an exact likeness. I was OK to start, but by the end of the year I was excellent… most of my really good drawings were sold to patrons as I became known as the lady with the sketchbook. “Draw me! Draw me!” I don’t really like drawing on demand. It doesn’t always work out if the inspiration isn’t there – I’d try.
