Avoid Muddy Colors

Just when I think I know everything… Just because I understand why colour gets muddy doesn’t necessarily mean I totally get it. In this video the artist does a fabulous job of explaining why all primaries are not the same. While she does mention warm and cold tendencies of colour, when she describes it as, “this colour wants to make that colour more,”… OH! I get it!

RED + BLUE = PURPLE, right?

This red leans more to orange than purple (warm)
This blue leans more to green than purple (cool)
Both Orange and Green have yellow, therefore it’s going to make a muddy purple.

This red leans more to purple than orange (warm)
This blue leans more to purple than green (warm)
This will make a nice fresh purple.
